Creatura, Mencía 2023

Creatura is a small Uruguayan wine project based in the Canelones region, an area shaped by Atlantic breezes and a long agricultural heritage. The winery works closely with local growers, focusing on careful vineyard management and a low-intervention philosophy in the cellar. By keeping winemaking gentle and allowing the vineyards to speak for themselves, the project aims to craft expressive wines that reflect Uruguay’s maritime climate and the evolving energy of its modern wine scene. Made from 100% Mencía, a grape you generally only seen in Spain, this vibrant red is fresh, perfumed and wonderfully drinkable. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild flowers rise from the glass, followed by flavours of juicy cranberry, ripe strawberry and a touch of gentle spice. The palate is light to medium-bodied with silky tannins and bright acidity that keeps everything lively and balanced. Elegant and energetic, it’s a brilliant red to enjoy slightly chilled with charcuterie or grilled vegetables.
